Knight Area was founded in 2004 after Gerben Klazinga released the first Knight Area album: The Sun Also Rises. This album was a project of Gerben, who wrote all the music, and many musicians participated in the recordings of the album. The album was a worldwide success and a band was formed to play live.
A new album was released in 2007 (Under a New Sign) after the band successfully played the European and American stages. Opposite to the first album, this second album was a real band effort which got very good reviews worldwide.
In September 2009 the third album was released and a successful European festival tour followed after the release. Knight Area played main festivals like Nearfest (USA), FMPM (Canada), ProgPower Europe, Night of the Progs (Germany), ProgSud (France), Slottsskogen (Sweden), iO Pages festival (Holland), CRS Octoberfest (England) and ProgResiste (Belgium).
The first live album was released in 2010. It was a double cd album with the recordings of the realm of Shadows tour in 2009.
In October 2011, the 4th album will again be released by The Laser’s Edge (USA). This album, Nine Paths, is mixed by Neil Kernon and mastered by Alan Douchess. Charlotte Wessels of Delain made a guest appearance by singing a duet with Knight Area singer Mark Smit.
Knight Area plays symphonic rock music, also classified as neo-progressive rock. The music blends a variety of styles using very melodic keyboards and guitars and the dynamic songs vary from ballads to more rock and metal kind of music.
