Wobbler

Biography
Wobbler play pure, unadulterated progressive music with no compromises. Their debut CD Hinterland is over five years in the making and the care and craftsmanship show. Led by keyboardist / composer Lars Fredrik Frĝislie (who also plays with prog / folk greats White Willow), Wobbler have a sound that echoes the best of the 1973-74 progressive scene. Hinterland bursts with mellotrons, hammonds, and Chris Squire-meets-Jon Camp bass lines. For the die-hard prog listener, this is the real deal - straight, solid progressive music that sits proudly by Mirage-era Camel, Starless & Bible Black-era King Crimson, and Octopus-era Gentle Giant. Hinterland is a blast of fresh Norwegian air that rocks melodically and rolls in about 147 time signatures!

Wobbler was formed in Norway in the spring of 1999 with the intent to bring together prog, classical, and folk music in their own unique fashion. Hinterland realizes the ideal beautifully. "Serenade For 1652," a brief piece, sets the stage with majestic, moody keys leading into the epic title cut. The track "Hinterland" clocks in at over 27 minutes and is a study in contrasts. Deep, dark passages set against pastoral sections weave a glorious sonic tapestry. The rhythm section of bassist Kristian Karl Hultgren and drummer Martin Nordrum Kneppen are devilishly sinuous, snaking through each piece, and, dare it be said, grooving. Listen to their syncopated madness on "Clair Obscur" as they build towards a fierce climax. Morten Andreas Eriksen is an encyclopedia of stringed instruments that shift from aggressive crunch to the delicacy of angel wings, often in the same piece. What can be said about Lars Fredrik Frĝislie? His keyboard work is nothing short of genius. 58 tons of mellotrons, Hammond organ, analog synth sounds, beds and beds of keyboards - always tasteful, never overwhelming. Adding just the right amount of spice to the mix are the vocals of Tony Johannessen. Johannessen has a pleasing, calm voice - a screamer would just kill the moods set on Hinterland.

If you're a prog fan looking for something new that will excite your ears and heart, Wobbler's Hinterland delivers the goods. If progressive music is new to you, here it is full strength with no apologies.
